The GSMST Chorus program has two performing ensembles led by director Mrs. Laurie C. Duke: Mixed Chorus and the Advanced Treble Chorus.  The Chorus program provides participating students with a range of musical experiences.

Chorus students get to experience a wide range of choral literature and participate in at least 5 concerts per school year. Students also have the opportunity to travel with the chorus to participate in festivals and workshops, sing in combined musical endeavors with the GSMST Band and Orchestra, and participate in GMEA Choral activities.

 GSMST Advanced Treble Chorus Audition Requirements

The GSMST Advanced Treble Chorus is the first auditioned ensemble of our Choral program and consists of a select group of treble voices (soprano and alto). Audition for this ensemble does not guarantee placement in the class as there is a limited number of spaces available. Auditions are not required for the Mixed Chorus.

If you would like to audition for the Advanced Treble Chorus please complete the google form by April 13, 2018 to schedule your audition date and time:

  • Rising Freshmen auditions will take place Saturday, May 5, 2018. A specific audition schedule will be sent out no later than April 20.

  • GSMST students not currently in Chorus will be scheduled for auditions after school Wednesday & Thursday, April 25 &26, 2018. Check your GSMST email for specifics.

  • Current GSMST Chorus students will audition in class on Wednesday & Thursday, April 25 & 26, 2018.

Audition Requirements:

1. Scales: Major, Natural Minor, & Chromatic Scales. Sing up and down each scale in your preferred vocal method (solfege, numbers, etc). Starting Pitch: Soprano F4 or Eb4; Alto C4 or Bb3)

2. Solo ‐ The Ash Grove: The solo is to be performed A Capella (the starting pitch for the solo will be given).

*The practice track tempo is at 92 bmp. This is only a suggested tempo for practice purposes and not required the day of auditions.

 3. Sight Reading: Students will attempt three sight-singing examples (4 measures long, Simple Meter, 2 in Major Keys, 1 in a Natural Minor Key). Tonality will be established for each example followed by 30 seconds of vocalized study. Students may use the sight reading method of their choice (solfege, numbers, etc.).
