Mr. Matt Haynor is incredibly excited to join the GSMST Band family this year! Mr. Haynor is entering his eleventh year as a full-time music educator. Mr. Haynor comes to GSMST after teaching the past two year in DeKalb County. Prior to teaching in DeKalb, Mr. Haynor taught at several private schools in Maryland and Pennsylvania, and at Jefferson High School in Jefferson, GA. He has served on staff with the UGA Summer Music Camp, UGA Marching Band Camp, and is active as a clinician and adjudicator throughout Georgia. He is a graduate of the University of Georgia, where he served as Drum Major for the Redcoat Band and as a Graduate Assistant in the Band Department. Mr. Haynor is currently a candidate for the Doctor of Music Arts degree at Boston University.
Mr. Haynor's professional affiliations include the Georgia Music Educators Association, Technology in Music Education, International Society for Music Education, Pi Kappa Lambda, and the National Band Association. Mr. Haynor also marched with the Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps, and was named a DCI World Champion in 2001 with The Cavaliers. Mr. Haynor and his wife have a passion for travel and exercise. They can often be seen out and about, as they lead active lifestyles. Mr. Haynor has run two half-marathons, ridden several 100-mile bike rides, participated in a triathlon, and also enjoys doing Crossfit. Mr. Haynor also considers himself an amateur photographer.
